New Way Corktown

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” - Micah 6:8 It started on Maundy Thursday (the day before Good Friday in the church calendar). I (Dean) had to work at Starbucks instead of attending the service at the Episcopal Church, which, if you're unfamiliar, has the symbolic washing of feet and stripping of the altar to reflect Christ's evening with his disciples and arrest. I was annoyed that I couldn't attend the service, but a priest reminded me that rather than having my own feet washed at church, perhaps Christ was giving me the opportunity to wash someone else's feet. Powerful stuff. This call, to wash one another's feet in servant love, is something we feel called to model in our neighborhood. Currently we're reflecting hospitality by opening our home every Thursday evening for a gathering of friends and neighbors, and we'll be looking to expand our ministry in 2010.
