Ailanthus

We've recently relocated from the Hamtramck area all the way west to Brightmoor. We are transitioning into a multi-household community. We also have moved close to some friends of ours (and are making some new ones as we go) because we were looking for something more inter-generational. We feel this as an important step in having any sort of longevity as a community. Aside from urban farming opportunities, we're taking our time a little bit and just getting used to the new setup. We're all really excited about the new opportunities all around us.

April Detroit Villages Gathering

Apr 17 2010 - 6:00pm

This month we'll be meeting together at the Jeanie-Wylie House on Larkins. Our speaker this month is Bill Wylie-Kellermann, pastor of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Corktown. Bill has lived in radical Christian community for decades, much of that on Larkins. He will be sharing the story of the Detroit peace community ...that consisted of many families in quite a few households on Larkins. I'm sure he'll share other parts of his story as well. The Jeanie-Wylie community, which will host this, started about a year ago as the next generation of young activists on the street.

February Detroit Villages Community Celebration

Feb 27 2010 - 6:00pm

"Unfortunately, most of the major denominations still practice segregation in local churches, hospitals, schools, and other church institutions. It is appalling that the most segregated hour of Christian America is eleven o'clock on Sunday morning, the same hour when many are standing to sing: "In Christ There Is No East Nor West." ~Martin Luther King, Jr., Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story, 1958

Detroit Villages Community Celebration

Jan 30 2010 - 6:00pm

Come out for the first Community Celebration of 2010. This month will take the format of a roudtable discussion. We anticipate this conversation to set the tone for the next year, so its really important that you come out and share your thoughts! We'll be discussing how we relate to God, to one another, and to our neighbors (and the wider world). We'll talk about our current practices and also the things that we know are important, but we don't do so well. We'll be exploring this not as isolated individuals, but in the context of living life together.
