Sierra Service Project Website
Sierra Service Project very successfully piloted a Spring Break project for young adults in March, 2006. A team of ten students and three campus ministers from the University of Oregon and Oregon State University spent five nights at our project site in Los Angeles. They did some hard work on the church gutting a shower room and and cleaning and painting another very large room! Evenings were spent touring the city, visiting youth-serving groups in the area, worshipping and having fun. The focus is on community, service and learning about the social realities of South Los Angeles. All of this takes place in an atmosphere of fostering spiritual growth.

PROJECT TRANSFORMATION
http://www.ntcumc.org/ProjTran/
Project Transformation is a grassroots, faith-based nonprofit based in Oak Cliff. We provide two services:
-Socially conscious leadership training and ministry exploration for young adults
-Community oriented programs for children and youth living in Dallas and surrounding low-income neighborhoods
Project Transformation began as a summer program in 1998 under the auspices of the United Methodist Church. Since that time, Project Transformation has become a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization offering year-round programs. The organization has expanded its services – more than doubling its opportunities for young adults and the children they serve.
PROJECT TRANSFORMATION: OKLAHOMA
http://www.okumc.org/ProjectTransformation/home.htm
Project Transformation is a ministry to connect young energy and leadership, the Oklahoma Conference churches and institutions, and urban congregations in a meaningful program by providing dedicated summer interns to urban churches.
This program is a great opportunity for college students to explore the diverse opportunities for lay and ordained ministry. Project Transformation was established in Dallas, Texas in 1998. In 2002 Project Transformation expanded to Oklahoma City holding summer day camps at three urban church sites. In 2003, Oklahoma Project Transformation expanded to four sites.
PROJECT TRANSFORMATION: VIRGINIA
http://www.wesleyuva.org/pt/
Project Transformation ...is an 8-week Monday-Thursday day camp for children in first through fifth grades, hosted by churches in Charlottesville and Waynesboro, and operated by college interns. Interns provide a full slate of activities, beginning each morning with a time of singing, followed by Bible lessons and worship, an hour of reading with volunteer tutors, crafts, recreation, and a time of afternoon enrichment when church and community volunteers introduce children to their passions and professions. Part vacation Bible school and part academic enrichment, Project Transformation focuses on reading skills and community involvement, giving children from some of the area's most vulnerable neighborhoods exposure to a variety of experiences and people within a Christian context.
PEACE CORPS
http://www.peacecorps.gov/
he Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then Senator John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that inspiration grew an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship.
Since that time, more than 182,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have been invited by 138 host countries to work on issues ranging from AIDS education to information technology and environmental preservation.
Today's Peace Corps is more vital than ever, working in emerging and essential areas such as information technology and business development, and committing more than 1,000 new Volunteers as a part of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Peace Corps Volunteers continue to help countless individuals who want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their communities.
Jesuit Volunteer Corps
http://www.jvcmidwest.org/opportunities-city.html#detroit
This is the JVC Midwest Volunteer Opportunities list for 2006-2007. We've organized a sampling of volunteer positions by area of ministry to make it easy to find your special interest. But don't stop there — explore all of the possibilities. You may be moved to serve in a new way.
JVC Midwest offers real opportunities to make a difference among diverse, inner-city populations of all ages. Positions are available in Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, Pontiac, MI, and St. Louis. As you look through your possibilities, keep in mind that your best experience will be with the placement that needs you most. In many cases, that special placement for you will become clearer as you discuss your options with the JVC staff.
The job list is organized into fields of work. A number of jobs are listed under several categories. The term JV refers to Jesuit Volunteer. Certain jobs may have special requirements, such as having a car or being bilingual. Don't let that prevent you from considering a job if you are particularly drawn to it, as some of those can be negotiated. Also, if you have specific skills or training (health care, law, teaching, Spanish) there may be job possibilities not listed, and staff can talk to you about these. Depending upon the nature of the placement, some Jesuit Volunteers may be required to undergo Criminal Background Checks.
