My Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh this summer
“Though the body is made of many parts, it is still whole. If we only had eyes, then how would we hear? If we only had ears, then how would we see?” –somewhere in Corinthians!
I can't even begin to explain how relative this verse is for the program I’m working with, Motown Mission. As a 4-person staff, we all rely on one another in order to accomplish our jobs. I notice this especially because, as the hospitality coordinator, it is technically my job to put food on the table for anywhere from 15-75 people every morning and night. Quite frankly, this wouldn't be even remotely possible without the rest of my staff. I am so grateful to have such helpful and understanding coworkers who will drop everything they're doing just to help a sister out.
As for our gifts...we have such a smorgasbord of qualities that blend together surprisingly well.
The Gift of Myrrh
Ben, our project coordinator, has such a way with words when the rest of us just want to scream. An adult leader announced this story as a highlight of his week:
A resident waited impatiently for volunteers to arrive one day, as he had expected their arrival 2 hours earlier. The resident was flustered and rather upset that everyone was "late" (although they were right on schedule- there was just a misunderstanding). Instead of trying to prove himself to be correct, Ben simply apologized for being "late," and in such a humble way. The man forgave him and was happier throughout the day. Myrrh.
The Gift of Frankincense
Our worship leader, Sarah, is also in charge of providing entertainment to our volunteers. The first 4 weeks of Motown Mission, we had scheduled an awesome band called The Hook to come in and play for us. They were great, but we still had 2 blank entertainment slots left for the last 2 weeks of summer. One night, Sarah explored the city of Detroit with some friends and happened to run into a Christian rapper, Lady Chosen. She worked her charm and instantly filled the last 2 slots. Frankincense.
The Gift of Gold
We like to consider our final Motown Mission intern the “everything else” coordinator. Kim is incredible; she does anything from making sweet slideshows to…handling payments &reimbursements to…well, let’s just say that, when we leave the church in the morning, Kim stays there all day, and when we come back, the world is a better place. Gold.

appreciation
You express wonderful appreciation for your team members. That can make everything work together better. "Exploring" the city sounds like a terrific work assignment especially when it comes up with Lady Chosen.
