Session 3
Session 3: unChristian
1.Chapter One
- Do you know any “outsiders”? Would you consider them to be friends? What do you think their perceptions are of Christianity?
Yes,I do I don't treat them differently or anything. I wouldn't consider them friends. I would consider them associates. Some don't believe in God, or believe He isn't powerful or the bad things that happened in their life wouldn't have happened.
Young people don’t like to join things that seem easy, mainstream, or normal. What does that mean for Christianity today? How can we help people grasp that Christianity was never meant to be safe? That means Christianity needs to change somewhat, Its not bad, but could take some alterations. Churches should be open to more than one belief about God and Jesus, and etc,.We shouldn't force people to think the way we think or think differently of them if they don't believe what we believe in. By trying new concepts and welcoming them without pushing them to do our concepts they'll be more open to join us in ministry, and they won't be worried about the risks that come with it.
When a young Christian interacts with the world, they are much more likely to live within a truly pluralistic generation … that is, many of their friends are not likely to be Christian. What should change, if anything, in the way we prepare young Christians to live in a pluralistic, diverse world?
We have too many kids that are followers now a days. If, we had more adults taking charge and disciplining their child instead of letting them grow up being a little adult, maybe the children minds wouldn't be so confused and off track. Since, they don't have any guidance, this allows them to freely do what they think is right, and follow in the footsteps of a defiant peer. So, therefore, if more people from churches, and the children families were mentors, they would know what and what not to do, be , or become from positive examples.
2.Chapter Two
- One outsider in the research made the following comment (p. 26): “…Christian means conservative, entrenched in their thinking, antigay, antichoice, angry, violent, illogical, empire builders; they want to convert everyone, and they generally cannot live peacefully with anyone who doesn’t believe what they believe” What is your reaction to this comment? Why do people come to these conclusions? What are some examples of ways Christians have become known for what they oppose? What is your church known for? Why does it have that reputation? In what ways can your life help to redeem the term Christian? How can you be a Christian, rather than simply telling people you are one? What does a Christian who represents both truth and grace look and act like?
My reaction is that statement is logically untrue. Not all Christians are homophobic. Not all Christians are anti-choice, some believe in abortions. Real Christians aren't violent or illogical because they follow the footsteps of God. Not all Christians try to get people to be Christians , they allow others outside of Christianity to do what they believe in. The very last statement is very untrue I have friends who aren't Christian ,and even Pro Christ. People come to this conclusion because they believe if one Christian is like that they are all. Our world is so stereotypical. If Christians are against something they fund raise or solicit money or volunteer their time to make a difference. For Example, Christians are against people not having a place to stay and being hungry, so we have a food pantry for the homeless , and we sell bags for the members of the church to pass them out to homeless places in the neighborhood. They hate places who suffer from hunger, and massive earthquakes, so we have a donation of school supplies , clothes and shoes, and etc, sent to Africa. My church does all the examples I named and more . All churches do this type of thing. We help all people in need. My church has this reputation due to the hard work of out circles and members wanting to make a difference in the world, and become better leaders in Christians by helping others better their life.My life can redeem the word Christian, I am a giving person, even its my last I have went on Mission trips to help churches in need of construction. I help with the kids in my church, and etc,. You can be a Christian by telling the truth , helping the needy, fixing up places to better our world, being a leader, donate to third world countries, and etc,. They look nice, dress nice, are in the church . They have never done wrong by anyway, nothing but blessing come from them and all they touch. They have been a positive influences on other people's life. They have helped the missionaries or something of that nature. They always are giving Thanksgiving to our Lord.
