Session 3: unChristian

Chapter 1:
One of my closest friends at Central is an outsider. Though I have never called her an outsider, I use what she calls herself. A “dirt worshiping tree hugger.” Besides her, I know several people who are not of the Christian faith. What I tend to hear is that they believe most of the people that are Christians are hypocrites; this may be for one reason or another. Also they see that many people are trying to force them to change their views. With today’s teens and college kids, this will only push them away.

Session 4: In Kind

During our Mission Work Weekend, one of the visiting pastors (from Argentine UMC) was really moved by the conditions that these kids are living in. And during lunch on the Friday, he got to talking with me and our AmeriCorps Vista, Lilly, about things that we do with our kids program. I told him about the program I run, which includes games, crafts, a snack, and a session on building good character.

Session 2: Engage Others In An In-Person Project

Session 2: Engage Others In An In-Person Project

Every summer Looking Glass has a Mission Work Weekend. This year it is on July 23rd and 24th. I have been contacting church's from both conferences and encouraging them to come and take part in this mission weekend. I have been able to have email conversations from several church's in the Flint and Lansing Districts. So far three have given conformation that they will be attending and many other church's have placed our event on their calendar and are encouraging people to come.

Session 1: Engaging Others in the Mission

Looking into the Mission's of several other organizations I visited several of the sites listed in the email, a few non-profit organizations, and two ministries that are closer to my heart. To list several: UMC.org, Charter for Compassion, Deaf Shalom Zone, United Way (who helps fund the mission I work with), Simpson Park Camp, and His House Christian Fellowship at CMU. Project Transformation attracted my attention the most. Project Transformation's mission mentioned one word that describes a Christian person's life perfectly. Purpose!
