Session One

Session One

"Mission Year Team Members faithfully spend time each week actively pursuing Biblical justice in their community. Their initial goal will be to identify and understand specific examples of individual, group, and systemic abuses of power which directly affect some or all of their neighbors. Later, Team Members will identify more experienced advocates who can enable them to responsibly help rescue, protect, or otherwise intervene on behalf of those neighbors, in areas of injustice."

This website attracts my attention for several reasons. One is that it seems to give off a sincere desire to help others in the name of Jesus Christ. Another reason is that it seems very social justice oriented. I take to heart the idea that there is no holiness but social holiness. Jesus was about social change for the betterment of humanity.

My summer has been going well thus far. We have completed several home repair projects. I am going to be a master at siding houses when I finish this summer. I have felt closer to God doing this work than I have felt in a while, it is nice. We have spent time sharing with team members, families, and the staff. I have loved this time of fellowship along with the work.

Amy Grant's blog has created an interest in me. Amy working in an environment where she doesn't speak the language is just amazing to me. I hope that her summer goes very well and that she grows and learns alot.

holiness

Wow - I really like the idea that holiness is about social holiness. It is often used to talk about personal holiness - but we are not called to stand alone as islands but to be in relationship with God and others. I never thought about siding a house as a spiritual practice but anything that gets us closer to God qualifies. I'd love to hear more.
