Poem

He gave us life,
We who are born in sin.
He gives us meaning,
We who are wander lost.
He gave us a mission,
We who forget that mission.

To protect his world.
To love his creation.
To honor him.
To respect ourselves.

We look to him for guidance when we become lost.
We look to him for answers when we become confused.
We look to him for love when we have known.

I look to him for guidance.
I look to him for answers.
I look to him for love.

So when I find them,

I share his love with those around me.
I'm not the only one who is wanting.

UnChristian Questions

CH.1 - One of my closest friends is an outsider or what I consider to be an outsider. Our values are so very different its amazing that we even get along. But in truth we're like brothers. This particular individual I'm referring to is a devout atheist. But despite our many differences in how we view the world and people, there are also a lot of things that we agree on. Our friendship has not always been what you would call easy. I have tried to persuade him to at least be open to my belief system but he isn't ready to try it yet. Not everyone is ready to accept Christ early in life.

in person resources

I know this is somewhat late. I've been up at the Urban Methodist Youth Camp at Judson Collins for the past two weeks and I was working with limited technological resources and time.

I just wanted to recount an event and the role the staff at the Ialac program had in making it successful.

Elevator Speech

My name is Ephraim and I’m a Mission Intern for the UMC Detroit Annual Conference. I’m assigned at People’s UMC, working at the IALAC (I am Lovable and Capable) Day Camp. A program focused on providing urban youth when an enjoyable, Christian, and educational environment over the summer months. A Mission Intern is a young college age adult that takes on a leadership role and develops leadership skills as well as explores servant ministry for a summer, specifically in summer programming for children and youth in less privileged urban and rural areas.

Gathering Support Session Two

So, as part of session two we were asked to make an appointment with various groups and solicit financial support from the members of those groups. The first group I solicited (on Sunday July 25th) was the congregation of People's United Methodist Church. It had been planned that this Sunday the Pastor and congregation thank those that volunteered for the Ialac program and that I make an announcement about the closing ceremony for the Ialac program.

4 - In-Kind

Of course there are clothes that could be donated, and i have some old toys and games and movies, but something that I believe could be really helpful are books. I like to read, and because of that I have amassed a large collection of books. I even the books I read when I was learning to read. I feel that those that are in good condition could be used by children of a younger age who are learning how to read but for some reason don't have access to reading material.

Session 3

Is there anyone that can tell me how to access the chapters for the unChristian text? I can't find the downloadable chapters on the website. :(

Blog 2 - The Work of the Body

I've been given the gift of communication and forethought. (This comes straight for my supervisor). Because of these gifts, this summer, as mission intern at People's Church, I've been given the tasks of commucicating needs goals and changes to others as well as the roles of supervising and planning tasks. I like my position because I'm able to develop in a leadership position but I don't have the pressures of responsiblity that my supervisor has.

I tried to watch the twist video but for someone reason it wouldn't play so I'm going to forego some content.

The First Blog

Hey everyone. It's Ephraim. So I just want to start by saying this is my first blog ever. It took me the longest time to figure out how to actually enter a blog on the website.

That being said I'm having a great time at my worksite. We had a little difficulty with someone close to several of my co-workers passing like a week into the camp but that settled and everything is running pretty smoothly. I thought it was going to be a little more confusing this year, with two programs going on at the same time, but everything is working out pretty well.
