Session 1- week 2

Hey Everyone!

This week I had the chance to explore some other organizations of interest; Cass, Deaf Shalom Zone, Emerge Detroit, charter for compassion,Findyourfaith and the list goes on. I must say that of all the places I have looked at, Cass Community is where my heart is. It isn't because of anything their website says or how they present the information but because I know the people there. I know Faith Fowler and what her and the rest of that congregation do for the city and each other. Every year I have the chance to visit just for a weekend and see what they are all about and every year I go home with a few more God moments on my list. I admire them most because they find unique ways to employ and teach the people around them.

The 10 most powerful words on the web sites:
10)Humanity
9) Open doors
8) Creative
7) Culture
6) Health
5) Freedom
4) Community
3) Service
2) Roots
1) Compassion

I'm a big fan of people trying to get along. I understand that there are differences that can be hard to look past, but that is what makes us each unique and wonderful. Compassion and Roots are the words that I found most powerful, Compassion because, well, that helps us all get along and understand each other. Roots is powerful to me because it has something natural to it. We're suppose to get to our roots, to the beginning, where life begins. This word is also powerful to me because my very beloved home church and its sister (Lake Harbor umc and Lakeside UMC in Muskegon) started a young adults ministry with that very name. I enjoy the work that they do very much.

This summer I've been blessed to spend some time at El Buen Pastor UMC in southwest Detroit. Its been a absolutely humbling experience so far. Mi espanol est muy mal. Forgive my spelling. I'm still working on pronunciation and listening skills.... We're doing some pretty awesome things, like teaching ESL courses and planning an entire vacation bible school (with adult track in case you're interested... July 12-16 2-5pm),even working to start a food bank in the area. Its tough work but we're young and ambitious, but more importantly so are the members of El Buen Pastor. I thank them every day for putting up with my "intricate game of charades" and for letting me be a part of their community.

Gracias por tu visita! Dios te bendiga!
